Last week we remembered the seven past pupils of our school who were involved in 1916.EMG 9 Work started on a wall hanging naming each of the men, which will be on display in the old school, where they attended, during the Heritage Week in August. EMG 6Six of the men: Tim and Michael Lynch  from Granig, John and William O’ Brien  from Tubrid, John and William Noonan from Ballyfeard; marched to Macroom to find that the uprising in Cork had been cancelled, while the other Diarmuid Lynch was in the G.P.O.

EMG 1To get accurate and informed answers to questions the class had after watching the documentary on Diarmuid Lynch on TG4, we invited in our local historian and author of the Forgotten Hero, Eileen Mc Gough. As a former teacher of descendants of Diarmuid Lynch, in the school , it was wonderful to make the link through the generations of LynchesEMG 5. She presented our Lynches in the school with a signed copy of her book along with a folder of extra documents and pictures.

This was the foundation for the creative writing we did, inspired by the man now famous for being the ‘Last Man to Leave the G.P.O’.
