On Wednesday February 10th, Miss O’ Sullivan’s class visited the Blackrock Castle Observatory to do an ‘Alien Workshop’. On arrival, the sun shone so they were able to use the sun telescopes in the courtyard to begin.
Following this, they began their Alien Workshop; by making Alien’s from tinfoil and pipe cleaners and wonderful slimy goo from borax and pva glue.
The children then entered the planetarium and learned about the world and it’s surroundings. Later they had to protect the world from comets (using computer games).
With the planet safe they headed for the roof of the castle and learned about the shipping lanes, the estuary and the history of the castle as it protected Cork harbour.
The tour finished off in the oldest part of the castle, the gunnery. A great time was had by all. More photos in the gallery.
