One of our 6th class students has been chosen as a semi-finalist for this year’s Doodle 4 Google. The annual creative art and design competition is open to all pupils and students in primary and secondary schools throughout Ireland. The Google Doodle is the drawing that is designed on, around and through the Google logo on the website’s home page.
This year’s competition will be part of Google’s contribution to the 2016 Commemoration Programme. Students were asked to design a Doodle on the theme ‘Ireland Is…’ The winning Doodle will appear on the Google homepage on Easter Monday, 28th March 2016. Themes that students were recommended to explore included ‘Our Home’, ‘Our Story’, ‘Our Identity’ and ‘Our Journey’.
I am sure you will agree that his entrance covers the story of Ireland’s journey through time. An avid artist and budding poet, his doodle description; “Field’s as “e” and rivers as “g”, this is why Ireland is special to me. The grass is green, what a wonderful scene. Come enjoy Ireland with me.” He was delighted to be chosen and looks forward to hearing if he makes it to the next stage of the competition.
There are five categories, from which 300 semi-finalists are chosen. Google employees select the best 15 doodles from each of the five class groups across each of the four regions in the Republic of Ireland, Ulster, Munster, Leinster, and Connaught. From these, Google’s expert judges will select the 75 finalists across the class groups and regions. These results will be announced on February 7th and will go to a public vote for one week. We wish him
all the best of luck.
